The entire frame, including the hinges, is made from the plastic of 1 x 600ml discarded single-use plastic bottle. This means 70-75% less CO2 is used in our manufacturing & we have zero material waste.

The word 'sustainable' is overused and can be confusing. So to be clear, this is our version of sustainable.

100% recycled frames
Our frames are made from the plastic of one discarded post -consumer PET bottle. Nothing else is added - no metal, no screws - making them recyclable too.

Ethical manufacturing
We make our frames in Sydney so we can control the manufacturing process to ensure no one nor the planet is harmed. And no cheap labour!

End of life
We take back broken parts to be recycled. Please email us and we’ll give you the free Reply Paid address to send them to.

Less CO2
Because we use only 100% recycled plastic in our frames, we use 70-75% less CO2 in our manufacturing than almost all other brands who use virgin materials (brand new plastic/ bioacetate).

Less waste
Our manufacturing process is zero waste. Every piece of our off-cut plastic finds a new home.

Less energy
Because we've reengineered the frame, we use less energy in our production. We make a frame in 100 seconds instead of the typical 100 hours.

Frames made by the sun
Our manufacturing partner has installed some serious solar panels on the factory roof. We only run our frame making machines in the day to take advantage of this renewable power. Good job the sun always shines in Sydney!

Box, case & cloth
All are made from 100% recycled materials in our certified factories in China (via our local agent in Sydney).

Plastic removal
Through Plastic Bank, we prevent plastic waste from reaching the ocean. The process 100% traceable and certified. Each pair sold removes 0.5kg (equiv. to 25 plastic bottles) from rivers and waterways.

Delivery
We use compostable mailing satchels that you can bury in your garden and we use Australia Post's carbon neutral postal service.

I dropped and stood on my glasses, damaging one the arms. I dropped them back into the store I brought them from in Avalon hoping for a miracle but expecting nothing 😂. Within 24hrs they called saying the owner of the company, personally, had fixed my glasses free of charge. Honestly, you don't get this service anywhere. So good! Super appreciative!!! Amazing glasses.

FAQ - Prescription Options

Do you do prescription sunglasses?

Yes we do prescription sunglasses and clear. You select your lenses after uploading your script.

Can I get computer distance lenses?

Yes you can if your optometrist has given you a script for intermediate. It will be marked on your script so choose single vision reading lenses, upload your script and then email to let us know you want computer/intermediate lenses.

Can I get lenses that change from clear to sun lenses when I go outside?

Yes you can. Simply select ‘light responsive lenses’ when prompted.

Do you do multifocal lenses?

Yes we do. They are called progressive lenses in our ordering process. (The top half of the lens is for long distance and bottom half is for close up).

What lenses do I choose if I want to be able to see into the distance as well as read with the same pair of glasses?

These are called multifocal or progressive. Select progressive if you want both in one lens.

Can I get coloured prescription lenses?

You sure can. Order sun lenses, select polarised or non polarised and then email to let us know what coloured lenses you’d like.

Can you put prescription lenses in my existing Good Citizens frames?

Yes we can and you can still order online, but you’ll need to email us so we can give you some additional instructions. Please email

I don’t have a prescription but I do need reading glasses. Do you sell standard reading glasses?

We sell readers from 0 to +3.5. You can find them here

Costs and Health Fund Claims

What do your prescription glasses cost?

They start at $216 for the frame and clear standard lenses. Postage to Australia is free.

Can I get a rebate from my health fund with your prescription glasses?

You can claim with 15 health funds. Once your glasses have been dispensed, we will send you a link to download your invoice which you can then use to claim. You can check what funds we work with here

I’ve ordered prescription glasses with you, but I can’t use my order confirmation to claim.

No that’s right, you can’t use your order confirmation to claim. You need to wait until your glasses have been dispensed before claiming. Look out an email from us with a link to download your invoice which you can then use to claim.

Delivery and Shipping

How long will it take to make my prescription glasses?

Typically it takes two weeks to make our prescription glasses. You can select Express Shipping when you order if you don’t want to wait for standard post.

Where do you ship your prescription glasses from?

We ship them from the lab in Sydney, Australia.

Do you ship prescription glasses worldwide?

Yes we do, however shipping is only free for Australian customers. We recommend you select Express Shipping for overseas orders.

Trying and Returning

Can I try the frame on before I buy?

Yes you can. We offer a try at home option. Click here to order your frames.

We also have a virtual try on option which allows you to see the frame on your face through the camera on your device. Click on the virtual try on button on the main product image.

Can I return my prescription glasses?

We don’t offer returns on prescription glasses as the lenses are made to your specific script. We can refund the frame if you send it back to us unworn and in the original packaging.
